Just picked this up and installed it today (no muss, no fuss). Thought I\'d publicize the fact that it worked since I spent hours looking for some indication that I could plug it in and actually see the accompanying GoFlex Desk drive.
It uses the NEC chip like many others - I picked up this one because it came from a store which accepts returns, and those hours of looking for a \"supported\" card had been fruitless.
Seems like a good indication that any NEC-chip-based PCI Express card should work, but would like to get confirmation from others.
Performance seems OK (reading 60-120 MBps depending on the test tool), but I haven\'t done any exhaustive tests.
There\'s some additional software provided on the GoFlex drive (not included in the kit, but presumably you\'ll be getting one of these since that\'s the only reason to shell out extra (roughly $30 CAD) for the Seagate-branded card):
1) a Windows-based encryption tool (which I haven\'t tried) and
2) a set of drivers for Windows (kind of smart - they include the Windows drivers on the drive, and since it can be hooked to USB 2 you can install that way without going online to search and download)
The Kit (Model STAE107, P/N 9ZH9P8-RA1) sold at Future Shop in Canada includes the desktop base to upgrade the GoFlex drives to USB 3.0, and a set of power adapters for various power outlets.
