Print fine with pnm2ppa
Posted April 6, 2008, 4:43pm by alexandrep, using Ubuntu Linux

The Printing Performance Architecture was a protocol developed by HP to work with some classes of DeskJet printers. Supposed to be cheaper and more powerful, it finally wasn't the case, and HP reverted back to its previous protocol for its new printers. HP did not develop any driver for its PPA printers.
The Deskjet 720 Series (710c, 720c and 722c), 820 Series (820Cse, 820Cxi) and 1000 Series (1000Cse and 1000Cxi) are PPA printers. They print fine using the community driver "pnm2ppa", but this driver does not provide advanced functions (like cartridge alignment or showing how mush ink is still in the cartridges). This driver is included in Ubuntu since 4.10, and your printer should be automatically configured correctly.
