My god, I remember when I bought my previous laptop. The HP Compaq CQ-50NR and it had this wi-fi card inside of it. It was pain and struggle around the 8.04 Ubuntu era because it wasnt supported until 8.10. Even then it was a pain in the ass to get to install (due to the operating system and at that time lack of ease in finding a .deb). In fact, if you google this particular model you will see many many many many many many posts about it. I would like to say shame on Broadcom for leaving us out especially, when such an obviously popular card was around.
Though, that\'s all in the past. The card is now properly supported with the latest versions of the kernel and if your using Ubuntu. You shouldnt have any problems with this card around 9.04 and later. Though, it is supported in 8.10 also.

works well but could be better

I am running Intrepid Ibex (8.10) with proprietary Broadcom sta wireless driver activated.
Overall It works good (actually better than I expected out of the box, nothing to configure). But here are some of the things that need improvement. First, signal strength indicator is not as accurate as it should be. Neither the signal bars nor the numerical value shown reflect the real world signal quality.Secondly, many times when computers come back from reboot, hibernation or sleep, the wireless network is slow to connect. Other than those, I am satisfied with overall experience. By the way, I am using Dell latitude D430 laptop.
